Since walking into our office in March 2023, Yomarys has made so much progress working with Self-Sufficiency Coordinator Carolyn Gulley. Progress, though, isn’t always linear, and her successes have been met with obstacles along the way. In March, Yomarys was working for an organization that went bankrupt, leaving her without a source of income. At the same time, her car broke down, leaving her without access to reliable transportation.
For many, these obstacles would seem insurmountable. However, Yomarys had been here before, but this time she had skills from her work with Carolyn. She also knew that Carolyn had many resources to help her overcome these issues. Within months, Yomarys was able to find another job and is now working to become a manager at her new place of employment. She was also able to purchase a new car with her new income.
Now, Yomarys continues to work towards her goals with Carolyn. Following a referral to Tec Centro, Yomarys has been taking classes to improve her computer skills. Yomarys has improved her financial standing through credit counseling and budgeting courses.
All of this progress was made and maintained through Yomarys’ hard work. Carolyn continues to walk alongside her as she navigates her future. Yomarys is focused on saving money to buy a house, and we can’t wait to see where she is by the end of this year. If you are facing similar obstacles, reach out to our Employment, Education, and Financial Empowerment team to see how they can help.
