Our Housing Security Team’s work is important and helps keep people healthy and safe. Merideth’s story is a great example of how the work that we do protects vulnerable residents in our Tri-County Area! Merideth, a widow living alone in Harrisburg, receives only a limited income from Social Security was struggling to pay her utility bills.
Because she only made about 900 dollars a month, she fell behind and eventually had her electricity shut off. Not knowing what to do, and with only a few hours of power left on her oxygen tank, she called our agency and came in contact with Robin Porter. Robin, knowing that if Merideth’s power did not get returned to her, she would be at risk of a medical emergency, worked quickly.
Before getting put onto OnTrack, Merideth needed the money to get her electricity back. Robin knew that she qualified for Operation Help, so in coordination with our Housing Security Director, she got her approved for the $228 to get her power back. Now that they knew that Merideth was safe and healthy, Robin began working with her to ensure that this did not happen again!
She worked with Merideth to get her approved for OnTrack. Robin’s patience and ability to help Merideth navigate some of the technical parts of the application made the process much easier for Merideth, who struggles with technology.
Merideth’s story is one of many clients that we work with, who are facing challenges that may put them at risk because of health issues. By stepping in and offering options, our clients are able to avoid otherwise costly doctor's visits, ambulance rides, and hospital stays. We know that people go through hard times; we are here to help you navigate them.
