Update: Heather's Journey with Krissy

Last year, we met Heather and her family.  She had already come so far working with Krissy Dressler, one of our Family Development Coordinators, including escaping a domestic violence situation, starting school, and learning how to prepare her kids for kindergarten. Over the past year, she has continued this progress with Krissy and her children.

Heather is still living with her children and has learned healthy ways to parent and talk with them. While still attending classes, she has moved on from being a barista to being an educational aide in a local school district. This career change has enabled her to support her children while advancing her professional development. She was also able to change her major to something that better suited her professional interests.

Krissy has also focused on food choices and cooking with Heather. Now, Heather cooks meals for her children almost every day.

Heather’s children are also on track academically and are meeting their developmental goals. They have even attended a few of the group connections that we hosted over the past year. This has given the family a chance to connect with others in the community.

There are still a few goals that the family is focused on as they move into the next year. Heather’s daughter, Natalie, has some behavioral struggles that Krissy is helping Heather address. Heather is also focusing on self-care and learning to prioritize her own goals as well as her children’s as she reaches a more stable point in her life. We are excited to see how the family continues to grow over the next year!
