I enjoy the [PAT] program because I get to connect with the people who work at Tri County Community Action and other parents.

Our Impact This Year

Everything we do is aimed at disrupting and permanently breaking the cycle of poverty for everyone living in our community.

Did you know that right now, 51,419 of your neighbors, friends, co-workers, and family members are economically insecure?

Last year, 38% of the people we helped were working and providing the sole source of income for their households - 63% were women, and 51% of households had children in the home. These were and are hard-working, caring, and productive members of our community - they are YOU - and we helped 17,624 of you stabilize, sustain, and take steps toward economic independence.

Hope's Story: On a Path to Self-Sufficiency

Unable to work due to a physical disability and on the verge of homelessness, Hope and her family were in a dire situation. The family had tried many times to find a solution on their own, but lack of resources and guidance hindered any progress they could make. Knowing they needed assistance, Hope reached out to Tri County Community Action where Hope met Autumn, our Self Sufficiency Manager.

In our Annual Report, we covered part of Hope’s story, and in the past three months Hope has moved even closer to self-sufficiency.

Hope and her family have moved out of temporary housing with help from Autumn who put her in contact with a local landlord in Shippensburg. Now living in their new apartment, they are saving up to buy a house within the next year.

Finding housing within Shippensburg was incredible for the family because Hope and her daughter are active members in the community, through the school, local library, and a girl’s club in the area.

Despite the increase in rent, Hope has still been able to maintain her family’s budget and save $300 each month! Hope’s significant other was even able to get a raise at his current job which positively contributed to the family’s financial independence. Hope has been unable to find employment due to her physical limitations, but she has applied for disability, pending approval.

As Hope and her family move forward, Autumn continues to assist them on their path to self-sufficiency with a variety of resources. Autumn has helped Hope to get into a first-time home buyer’s class which provides first time home buyers with guidance and credit toward their closing costs when buying a home.

Autumn said, “Hope’s hard work is why she has been so successful. I can give people many resources but it’s their work which leads them to empowering themselves.” Hope’s story is just one example of how impactful our Employment, Education, and Financial Empowerment programs can be to our community members.

We are proud of the work Autumn has been doing with Hope and look forward to her future achievements in our self-sufficiency program.
