Katie Roberts, a Self-Sufficiency Coordinator, works closely with clients in Perry County who are navigating a wide range of challenges. Financial hardship is often only one of the many barriers they face on their path toward independence. For Ana, poverty and an abusive relationship left her feeling trapped with no way out. With nowhere else to turn, she reached out to Katie, who helped her begin her journey toward safety and financial stability.
Through a referral from the Capital Area Behavioral Health Collaborative program, Katie was able to help Ana escape her abusive situation and secure housing for herself and her two daughters, Samantha and Sandy. Now that Ana is safe, Katie has begun short-term case management and is encouraging her to enroll in Tri-County Community Action’s long-term case management program for continued support.
Katie also connected Ana with food donations, as she had lost access to her benefits during the government shutdown and had no other resources to turn to. Although they have only been working together for a short time, Katie and Ana have already identified several goals for the future—goals they hope to pursue through our long-term case management program.
One of the priorities is ensuring that Ana’s daughters are on track developmentally. Katie referred the family to our Family Development Program, where they can be assessed and potentially enrolled in services tailored to their needs. Katie is also supporting Ana in exploring additional education or training opportunities so she can build a career that provides long-term stability for her family.
As Ana continues to receive guidance and support from Katie, we look forward to seeing her and her family achieve these goals and more through our programs and the resources available in our community.
